Interior Health is reporting a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Kelowna.

One resident and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 at Spring Valley Seniors Community long-term care, according to an Interior Health media release issued today, April 28.

Contact tracing is underway and anyone in close contact is being provided direction on self-isolation and is monitoring for symptoms, Interior Health said.

The long-term care facility is operated by Park Place Seniors Living with 150 publicly-funded long-term care beds.

Interior Health is monitoring the situation, while implementing infection control and preventive measures. To protect the safety of all residents, outbreak protocols are in place, including a pause in all visits.

Everyone in all communities should remain vigilant in following COVID-19 precautions including keeping to your household bubbles, avoiding social gatherings, staying home if you feel sick and get tested for COVID-19, practicing social distancing and wearing a mask, washing your hands often and avoiding non-essential travel, Interior Health said.

Spring Valley is one of three outbreaks currently in Kelowna.

Cottonwoods Care Centre has 29 cases, including 26 residents and three staff, with two deaths are connected to the outbreak. Sandalwood Retirement Resort in Kelowna has 25 cases of the virus, including 24 residents and one staff member, with one death connected to the outbreak.

COVID-19 tests can be booked online here or by calling 1-877-740-7747.
