While the focus on climbing COVID-19 cases in B.C. has been on the Lower Mainland of late, the Interior Health region has just gone through two of its worst back-to-back days since the pandemic began in January.

Today, Nov. 10, there were 27 new cases reported in the Interior Health region, just one less than yesterday.

Even when Kelowna was the focus of attention in July for COVID-19 being spread through parties at hotels and rental properties, the daily numbers were often in the 10 to 12 range.

This brings the total number of cases in Interior Health to 922.

With 525 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. in the past 24 hours, the provincial total is now 19,239 with 5,133 active cases along with 9,781 people who are being monitored by health authorities.

"A growing number of people in British Columbia are now self-isolating at home, away from their work, school, friends and family, which in turn is creating unnecessary financial and emotional strain for far too many,” states a joint news release from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix.

“We can turn this trend around and the time to do that is now. Over the next two weeks, and especially tomorrow on Remembrance Day, let's honour our veterans for all that they have done for our province and nation. Let's recognize the sacrifices and hardship they faced and overcame by making our own small sacrifices right now.”

There have also been three new deaths in B.C., bringing the total to 284.

There are 142 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 46 in intensive care.

Of the 525 new cases, 325 were in the Fraser Health region, 159 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, seven in the Vancouver Island Health region, 27 in the Interior Health region and seven in the Northern Health region.
