COVID-19 cases slow in Interior Health with 371 over weekend

While the number of new cases in B.C. remains high at 1,692 over the weekend, the tally in the Interior Health region was lower than in recent days at 371 over the same time period.

That averages 124 cases a day, or about 60 a day less than the previous weekend and lower than any single day since July.

In B.C., there were 644 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 613 from Saturday to Sunday and 435 in the last 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Health media release issued today, Sept. 20.

Of those, 533 were in the Fraser Health region, 239 in Vancouver Coastal, 345 in Northern health and 204 on Vancouver Island.

There were 11 more deaths from COVID reported over the weekend but none in Interior Health. The provincial death toll is now 1,899.

There has been one new outbreak in a health care facility, the Overlander long-term care home in Kamloops.

There are 5,608 active cases in B.C., with 307 people in hospital, 156 of whom are in intensive care. There are 1,183 active cases in the Interior Health region.

The vaccination rate for those over the age of 12 has reached 86.8% with a first dose and 79.4% with a second dose.
