COVID-19 case reported at Vernon's Village Green mall

The Village Green Mall, Vernon. 5 p.m. April 7

A confirmed positive COVID-19 case has been reported at Vernon's Village Green Shopping Centre.

Staff at half-a-dozen businesses said a memo had been received from the mall's management confirming someone at the mall had tested positive for COVID-19. The memo appears to have been sent out in the last couple of days. No one from the businesses iNFOnews.ca spoke to would go on the record regarding the case.

Neither the Village Green Shopping Centre website or its Facebook site has any mention of the COVID-19 case and the mall's management did not return our calls.

Lotto Centre kiosk owner Daphne Tobin told iNFOnews.ca she had not received the memo but began hearing rumours of the case a couple of days ago. Tobin said she wasn't sure if she had just been overlooked but the mall's security had told her they would get her the information.

Staff at the other businesses wouldn't comment on the memo's details but one employee confirmed the dates published in other media were correct, and the case involved someone working at the mall between Aug. 1 and 19.

Interior Health said in an email its public health team investigates all COVID-19 cases and determines if exposure has occurred.

"Interior Health has a thorough contact tracing program to follow up with individuals identified as at risk of COVID-19. If there is risk to the public, Interior Health has and will continue to alert communities," Interior Health said. "If you have not heard from Interior Health, carry on with your activities and continue to follow the safety measures. If you have symptoms, please get tested. You do not need to get a test if you have no symptoms."

The COVID-19 case at the Village Green is not listed on Interior Health's online list of public exposures.
