COVID-19 case reported at Vernon elementary school

A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at the Mission Hill Elementary School in Vernon.

According to Interior Health, the potential exposure took place Nov. 9 and 10.

It is not known whether the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 was a pupil or staff member. Interior Health will only say a "school community member" tested positive.

Interior Health says contact tracers will now directly contact any students or staff who test positive.

In early October, another COVID-19 positive case was reported at Vernon's Clarence Fulton Secondary School. Interior Health reported an individual with a case of COVID-19 was at the school from Oct. 5 to 8.

So far, North Okanagan schools have only had a few positive COVID cases, in stark contrast to the situation in Kelowna where Interior Health has reported potential exposure at 11 SD 23 schools. On Nov. 10, three people tested positive for COVID-19 in three different elementary schools in Kelowna.
