COVID-19 case reported at Highland Valley Copper near Kamloops

A contractor at Teck's Highland Valley Copper has tested positive for COVID-19.

Teck is notifying employees and contractors that a contractor at Highland Valley Copper has COVID-19.

The individual was working in the LL-dam general area and on site from Sept. 8 to 11, according to a statement posted on the mine's website on Sept. 21 by general manager Elaina Ware. A positive test result was received Sept. 20 from a test was taken Sept. 18.

The person is now self-isolating and Highland Valley is working with public health authorities to manage the risk of transmission by tracing all potential contacts and disinfecting work areas, according to the company's statement.

Contact tracing is underway and anyone who has been identified as having close contact with the individual on site has been notified and is self-isolating. If you are not contacted, you do not have to self isolate, according to the statement.

Teck will provide further updates as required, according to the statement.
