Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine wants people to take this pandemic seriously.
The municipality sent out a notice this afternoon, stating that a COVID-19 case has been reported in the town.
Raine said the Sun Peaks resident has been in self-isolation since March 18, and is doing well, however they don’t know how they got the virus.
He isn’t surprised to see it spread to the ski hill, as the resort sees a significant increase of travellers and tourists during its winter season.
He estimated that with the mountain open this winter, roughly 50 per cent of visitors were from out of the province.
Sun Peaks Ski Resort closed for the season after the provincial government banned groups of larger than 50 people to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“We thought it was important that the community realizes the virus is here and we need to be paying attention,” Raine said.
The person has been tested, he said.
