KELOWNA - A man and woman from Kelowna have been arrested after they stole a bait car today.

Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says a Kelowna RCMP bait car was activated just after 8 a.m. on June 17. While audio and video recorders rolled, several general duty and plain-clothes officers converged.

The bait car was first spotted by officers as it travelled westbound on Harvey Avenue at Gordon Drive, O’Donaghey says in a media release. The vehicle then pulled into the 200 block of Leon Avenue where the suspects got out and began to walk away from the bait car. Officers flooded the area and arrested the suspects without incident.

A 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both with no fixed address, remain in police custody and face potential charges of theft of a motor vehicle under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. The woman also facing a potential additional charge of drive while prohibited.

The woman was also wanted on an unrelated warrant out of West Kelowna.
