Councillor Hodge bounces back, shrugs off lung infection

Coun. Charlie Hodge at Kelowna city council chambers

KELOWNA – Coun. Charlie Hodge was back in his chair at Kelowna city council Monday afternoon after being hospitalized for pneumonia last week.
“Once you get here it’s like sitting at your kitchen table,” said Hodge, who added he was just glad to be back. “It knocked the wind out of me that’s for sure."

Hodge was welcomed back by his fellow councillors but pointed out he never missed a meeting. Hodge jumped back into council debates, despite being hooked up to an oxygen canister.

He was hospitalized last Wednesday with pneumonia. The two-term councillor confirmed his condition on his Facebook page, saying the infection was confined to his lower left lung and that a CT scan had shown there were no blood clots. Hodge is also known to suffer from emphysema.

Hodge was first elected to council in 2008 only to lose his re-election bid. He won a second term in November 2014. He was born and raised in Kelowna and worked as a journalist before entering municipal politics.
