Council picks Litke as acting mayor

Coun. Garry Litke was all smiles at Monday night's council meeting. He was appointed as acting mayor, while Mayor Dan Ashton is on a leave of absence.

Penticton's acting mayor is Coun. Garry Litke who was appointed in a unanimous vote.

Mayor Dan Ashton is on a leave of absence. He is running as the Liberal candidate for the Penticton riding.

"I would like council to know how much I appreciate their trust in me," Litke said at Monday night's council meeting.

Litke said no decision is being made tonight about what happens if Ashton fails to win the MLA seat on election day on May 14. He did say a council meeting will be held soon after.

Litke would not say who else was nominated to be acting mayor for the next 30 days. That was decided behind closed doors. Coun. Wesley Hopkin confirmed Litke received unanimous support.
