Coroners identify man who died when his motorcycle hit a deer

OKANAGAN - The victim who died in a motor vehicle accident on July 7, 2016 has been identified by the B.C. Coroners Service.

Around 10 p.m. on July 7, 2016, Preston John Smith, 35, of Calgary, Alta, was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Highway 33 E when he struck a deer.

The contact with the deer caused Smith to lose control, cross the centre line and collide with a black Nissan sedan. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release today, July 12.

The driver of the black Nissan sedan, a 31-year-old man from Kelowna, was uninjured and is facing charges of impaired driving.

RCMP Traffic Services and the B.C. Coroners Service are still investigating this death.
