Corn porn in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - You can buy it out of a van down by the river.

A Lower Mainland man is selling Chilliwack corn out of his van on Victoria Street, driving up every second day with a full load.

"It's so damn good I had to come back," one customer said as InfoTel arrived.

Les Ullrich has been selling the stuff for about 10 years, but made his way to the Tournament Capital for the first time this year during corn season.

"Apparently I'm the first one who's done this in Kamloops, like actually drive it up," he says.

Ullrich has been selling the cobs in Kamloops for about a week outside Ladies Only Fitness on Tenth Avenue and Victoria Street.

But corn is only his job for part of the year. He sells it to get to Mexico during the other seven or eight months of the year where his wife lives and his missionary work is done.

He's even written and self-published a book about 'his story' that he sells on Amazon. It's his first time setting up shop in Kamloops, after selling it in Vancouver and being booted out of his spot for not having a permit.

"It's become a very difficult business because of development," Ullrich says."The idea is to find a good spot."

He's hoping he's found his spot for the summer, saying he'd like to stay until the end of September.

It's been a slow start, he says, adding he has to sell about 30 dozen to break even driving to and from Chilliwack so often.

But Ullrich says it's about the repeat customers, something that is clear by those who approach the van looking for the cobs.

Ullrich says people come for the corn because it's 'famous.'

"It's a small corner of the planet that makes really good corn," he says. "It's fresh and sweet. You can build a business on this corn."

He's sells the corn for cash every day beginning around 10:30 a.m. except for Tuesdays: $10 for a dozen, $5 for half a dozen.
