UPDATE: Coquihalla Highway reopens southbound between Merritt and Hope

It's still pretty wintery on the Coquihalla Highway as can be seen in this image from a DriveBC webcam by the Britton Creek rest area northbound turnoff, looking north, Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

Drivers heading to the Lower Mainland this afternoon via the Coquihalla Highway may still be in for delays now that the southbound lane have reopened.

A vehicle incident had closed Highway 5 southbound between Merritt and Hope, according to DriveBC. The route has been cleared but traffic congestion will be an issue as the backload of vehicles start moving.

The crash happened between exit 290 to Merritt and exit 183 to Peers Creek Road today, March 11.

DriveBC had asked motorists to consider taking alternate routes like the Trans-Canada or Highway 3.
