Cooler, wetter week on the way for Okanagan

There will be clouds and sun today in the Okanagan, but the remainder of the week is forecast to be mostly cloudy, cool and showery.

KELOWNA - It's going to feel like fall this week in the Okanagan with clouds, showers and cooler than normal temperatures in the forecast.

Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven says the region is under a trough of cool, unstable air that will persist through this week.

“The forecast is calling essentially for on and off showers throughout the week, with temperatures trending downwards, especially during the end of the week,” Erven says.

Most of the Okanagan received around five millimetres of rain in the last 24 hours, she says.

The cooler, wetter weather in the forecast should help crews still fighting wildfires in the area as well. Further rain this week is expected to be widely scattered and highly variable in amount.

Expect a 30 per cent chance of showers today, Sept. 10, in the Okanagan with a high of around 21 Celsius.

Tomorrow the chance of rain increases to 60 per cent, with the possibility of a thunderstorm as well, and a high of 19 C.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are expected to be cloudy with temperatures around 16 C.

That’s quite a bit chillier than normal high temperature of about 21 C at this time of year in the Okanagan.
