Highway alerts are still in place for Southern Interior mountain passes but should ease later today, Feb. 29.
In the valley bottoms, forecast high temperatures range from 12 Celsius in Kamloops down to 4 C in Penticton today, with cooling Friday and into the weekend in Kamloops.
The Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt could get another 5 cm of snow today while 15 cm could fall on Highway 1 from the Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass and 10 cm along Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton.
“A strong Pacific frontal system is pushing through the BC interior with snowfall associated with the system continuing today,” the Environment Canada travel alert says. “The heavy snowfall and gusty winds should begin to taper off Thursday morning.”
Snow could continue on Highway 1 into the evening.
The 12 C high in Kamloops today comes with a 60% chance of showers. It should drop to -1 C tonight, according to the Environment Canada online forecast.
Daytime highs bounce between 6 C on Friday, 2 C on Saturday and 4 C on Sunday with overnight lows of -2 C to -4 C. There should be a mix of partly sunny and cloudy days.
Normal daytime highs in Kamloops for this time of year are 8 C with overnight lows of -3 C.
Today’s high temperatures in the Okanagan range from 6 C in Vernon down to 4 C in Penticton.
Friday’s high temperatures in the Okanagan should be about 4-6 C with a chance of rain showers or flurries through Saturday with overnight lows of -1 C tonight down to -4 C by Sunday morning.
Next week shows temperatures warming to the 6-7 C range starting Tuesday.
