Cool, wet weather to hit Kamloops

Rain is expected in Kamloops this week.

KAMLOOPS - The warm weather we’ve been having is about to step aside to make room for cooler temperatures and rain, lots of rain, over the next few days.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of the Okanagan Valley as well as the Shuswap, Nicola and South and North Thompson regions warning of a change in weather about to hit Southern B.C. Rain may start in some areas today, Monday, June 1, and by Tuesday the entire region will be under rain.

In Kamloops, temperatures are expected to reach 27 C with rain starting tomorrow. Five to 10 mm of rain is expected Tuesday, along with rain Wednesday and a 60 per cent chance of rain on Thursday. Temperatures will drop to a high of 19 C by Wednesday before heating up to the mid-30s with full sunshine over the weekend.

In the Shuswap area, as much as 15 mm of rain is expected Tuesday, along with rain on Wednesday while Cache Creek, which is still cleaning up following the severe storm that hit the community May 23, is expecting up to 10 mm of rain Tuesday followed by more rain on Wednesday and a chance of showers Thursday.

With high temperatures expected to reach the mid- to high-20s today the Okanagan will still be above seasonal normals today, though rain could also start today in the Kelowna and Penticton areas.

Environment Canada is calling for a 30 per cent chance of showers with a risk of a thunderstorm in those regions today and for 10 to 20 millimetres of rain Tuesday throughout the Okanagan. More showers are forecast for Wednesday as well.

Temperatures will drop to a high of 16 C by Wednesday but will heat up again heading into the weekend, when temperatures are expected to be in the 30s.
