PENTICTON - You may need a light jacket today, as the week begins with a cool, unstable air mass over the Thompson-Okanagan.
Expect temperatures to run around four or five degrees below normal with a risk of showers this afternoon, June 4, across much of the region, says Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven.
The North Okanagan and Thompson regions may even see a thunderstorm develop later this afternoon.
Daytime temperatures today are expected to range between 17 Celsius and 19 C, with a 30 to 60 per cent chance of showers later in the day.
Temperatures are expected to get chilly tonight, down to between 4 C and 7 C, but Erven says no records are anticipated to be broken. Kelowna’s low temperature record for tonight is 1 C, while Kamloops is 1.7 C and Penticton 2 C.
Tomorrow should warm up a little with a mix of sun and cloud, and no precipitation expected in the region. Temperatures are forecast to range between 19 C and 21 C.
Wednesday and Thursday appear to be the nicest days of the week, as mainly sunny conditions and higher than normal temperatures returning to the region. Temperatures should range from 26 C to 28 C.
There is a slight risk of thunderstorms over higher elevations on Thursday.
The new system, bringing with it warming weather, is expected to begin advancing into the Interior just in time for the weekend, with increasing cloudiness anticipated for Friday.
