Highway 97C eastbound lanes are closed near West Kelowna due to a commercial truck fire.

West Kelowna RCMP have shut down the eastbound lanes between Trepanier Road and Brenda Mines Road as firefighters continue to battle the blaze, according to press releases from RCMP and DriveBC.

The truck is roughly 20 kms outside of West Kelowna near the Silver Creek pullout. The westbound lanes are still open, but traffic is moving slowly.

The vehicle was carrying chemicals that caught fire which is making it challenging to put out.

Police are advising eastbound travellers to avoid the area.

Once the fire is out police will investigate the cause. RCMP says it will update the public when more information is available.

For updates on traffic go to DriveBC.
