Connecting a campus through photos

KAMLOOPS – A couple weeks ago a Thompson Rivers University student started “Humans of TRU”, a Facebook page he says he created spur of the moment that's already garnered nearly 400 likes.

The source of 20-year-old Eric Rankin's inspiration for the Thompson Rivers page is the well-known Human's of New York Facebook page. The premise is to take portrait photographs and conduct a one-question interview with the subject. Questions can range from simple to philosophical.

Rankin, a second-year psychology student at TRU says he’s fostering the page just for the fun of it but can sympathise with those he targets for pictures.

“I don’t like to be in front of the camera,” he says. “I know it can be awkward.”

He says the project has pushed him to be more extroverted in his hopes to develop a sense of community at TRU.

“We have such a diverse group of people on campus,” he says.
