PENTICTON INDIAN BAND - A state of local emergency and evacuation alerts have been ordered by the Penticton Indian Band as they continue to fight the Conkle fire that started last night.

A number of homes were also placed on evacuation alert, lincluding all homes on Big Valley Road and Shingle Creek Road north of Green Mountain Road. The fire is currently roughly 5.5 kms from the nearest home.

Band officials advise rural residents there to act now in case livestock needs to be evacuated.
