Community centre gets even swankier with new patio furniture

A donation of outdoor chairs will spruce up the exterior of the Penticton community centre.

PENTICTON - The city pool is looking more like a swanky deck thanks to the addition of several colourful outdoor lounging chairs.

The City of Penticton recreation department has just put the finishing touches on a new outdoor patio. The project was possible through a donation from a long-time pool patron, Maureen Sewell.

“The pool patio project was completely funded by our patron," recreational general manager Chuck Loewen says.

Donations have assisted the Penticton Community Centre such as toys and play equipment; support for programs designed for individuals with disabilities; equipment for pool exercise; pedometers to help with walking programs for school-aged children.

The Parks Department Gifting Program has also been given donations. The program has proved popular, with nearly 300 benches and picnic tables donated in the past 15 years.

The department is currently soliciting donations for items like trees, bike racks, gazebos and more, as well as working alongside the South Okanagan Children’s Charity to construct the community’s first natural playground, Discovery Park at Skaha Lake.
