The star of a hit reality show about a comic book shop is coming to Kelowna.
Ming Chen starred in AMC’s “Comic Book Men” which followed his life as the owner of the comic shop Secret Stash in New Jersey, and he’s in Kelowna to do two events, according to a press release.
Chen is going to be at 18 Nine Brewing for a pop up nerd bar, trivia game and a live podcast on Tuesday, April 30. He's also appearing at Okanagan Sports Cards and Comics for a meet and greet on May 1. Chen’s event at 18 Nine at the Mission Creek Golf Course is starting at 7 p.m. and he will be at Okanagan Sports Cards and Comics between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Filmmaker Kevin Smith led the “Comic Book Men” series that attracted attention from the biggest names in superhero stardom like Stan Lee, Adam West, Lou Ferrigno and Nichelle Nichols.

For nine seasons, fans of the show watched Ming operate his comic shop and since the show ended he has been sought after for Comic Con appearances.
Northern FanCon’s founder Norm Coyne is based in Kelowna and pitched Chen on the idea of coming out to the Okanagan.
“Norm made Kelowna sound so cool that I had to go visit,” Chen said in the release. “What I have planned is going to be a ton of fun!”
Chen’s stint in Kelowna is sandwiched between an appearance in Alaska and a stop at Northern FanCon in Prince George.
Coyne said more celebrities are being drawn to Kelowna-fornia.
"How awesome is it to see more and more film and television stars popping up in Kelowna?" Coyne said in the release.
"Since moving to the city, I have had countless conversations with actors and filmmakers who are thirsty for a reason to experience Canada’s California."
