PENTICTON - A serious crash closed Highway 97 south of Penticton this yesterday afternoon.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says Highway 97 was closed near Kaleden following a collision earlier yesterday afternoon, Aug. 25, involving four vehicles; a minivan, a car, a pickup and a larger tandem axle moving truck.

A pickup truck rear-ended a southbound Mazda 3. This accident led to a chain reaction crash that involved at least 2 other vehicles, says Penticton RCMP.

Wrigglesworth says two people, the 36-year-old mother and her six-year-old daughter, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries, while several other people were treated by B.C. Ambulance paramedics at the scene of the crash.

The South Okanagan Traffic Services is conducting an investigation.

RCMP were asking motorists to use the detour on Eastside Road between Penticton and Okanagan Falls.

Witnesses who have not been interviewed are requested to contact South Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-499-2250.
