Coldstream cancels Halloween fireworks due to flood damage to pier

COLDSTREAM - It may seem a long ways away, but officials in Coldstream are letting the public know about a change in Halloween plans.

Due to significant damage suffered to the pier at Kalamalka Beach during the flooding earlier this year, the pier is not expected to be ready in time for the annual Halloween fireworks show, the District of Coldstream says in a media release.

“As a result, the Coldstream Fire Hall will not be providing a fireworks show on Halloween in 2017,” the district says.

Historically, a Halloween fireworks show has been put on by both the Coldstream and Lavington Fire Halls.

Despite the Coldstream cancellation, the show will go on in Lavington. With the anticipation of a larger crowd this year, the Lavington Fire Hall is “working towards putting on the biggest and best fireworks display in recent memory,” the district says.

The annual “Boot drive” fundraiser will instead be used as a fundraiser for the Red Cross with the proceeds going to support the wildfire firefighting relief efforts. The “Boot Drive” will take place on Saturday Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of College Way and Kalamalka Road and at the Coldstream boundary on Middleton Way.
