Cold case cops arrest man for manslaughter in B.C. killing going back to 2000

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Cold case cops in British Columbia have arrested a 45-year-old man in a killing going back more than 13 years.

Forty-eight-year old Sandy Charlie disappeared from his home in Lytton in December of 1999, but his remains weren't discovered until September of last year when they were found in a concealed grave.

The Provincial Unsolved Homicide Unit was called in to take over the investigation.

The RCMP says that probe has led to a manslaughter charge against William Robert Smith, who was arrested in Langley.

The death turned out to be a double tragedy for the Charlie family when the victim's son, Sandy Cleghorn, died while searching for his father.

Cleghorn disappeared in January of 2000 after he travelled to Lytton to look for his father, and his body was found in the Fraser River two months later.
