Clouds, showers expected in the Okanagan to start the weekend; possible thunderstorm this afternoon

There is a possiblity of showers in the central and north Okanagan today, but the south should be mostly sunny, with more showers expected on Saturday.

There’s no end in sight to an unsettled weather pattern over the Okanagan for the past several weeks.

An unremarkable blend of clouds, showers, sun and cloud and slightly below seasonal temperatures are in store for the next few days, along with a weekend that will see showers on Saturday and daytime highs 4 degrees below normal on both Saturday and Sunday.

Environment Canada says to expect mainly cloudy conditions today in Vernon and Kelowna with a 60 per cent chance of showers. There's also risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon for both cities.

Winds should become north at 20 km/h this afternoon with a high of 19 Celsius and a low of 8 C expected, with showers easing in the evening.

Penticton should be mainly sunny today with a high of 21 C, a low of 9 C and winds becoming northwest at 20 km/h this afternoon.

More clouds are in store for Friday, with winds south at 20 k/h in the afternoon.

Friday’s high should reach 22 C with a low to 11 C in Vernon and Kelowna.

Penticton should see a high of 23 C with south winds at 30 km/h late in the afternoon.

Showers are expected to begin Friday night.

An unsettled weekend is in the forecast, with periods of rain on Saturday and a high to 18 C.

Cloudy skies and a low of 7 C is expected Saturday night.

Sunday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 18 C, but by Sunday night the clouds should return along with a 30 per cent chance of showers, and a low of 9 C.

Monday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a high of 18 C, followed by clouds, a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 9 C overnight.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs of 22 C both days.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal daily high and low for early June is 22 C and 9 C.
