Clouds and rain expected this weekend in the Okanagan

There is a mix of sun and cloud forecast for the South Okanagan, but the rest of the valley could see some showers today, with more rain for everyone this weekend.

May begins with a bit of an unsettled pattern for the Okanagan, but an improvement appears to be on the way for the first full week of the month.

There’s a chance of showers for the valley today, April 30, followed by a nice day tomorrow, but clouds are forecast for the weekend along with showers for Sunday.

The start of the work week should bring improving conditions with a sun and cloud mix along with some warmer temperatures.

Back east, parts of Ontario are facing up to 60 mm of rain today and Friday before skies clear and temperatures warm up into the low 20s for the weekend. The nice weather will be short-lived there, however, as the Weather Network forecast calls for a return to below normal temperatures next week.

Environment Canada says today should be mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 17 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna.

Penticton should see a mix of sun and cloud, along with a high of 17 C.

It will be breezy, too, with southwest winds at 20 km/h, expected to continue into the evening, with tonight’s low dipping to 4 C.

Penticton could see northwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40, continuing into the evening.

Friday should be mainly sunny for the first day of May, with a high of 18 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 19 C in Penticton, and a low of 7 C in all three cities.

A disturbance crossing the region late Saturday is expected to bring cloudy skies and periods of rain by Saturday night. Saturday’s high is forecast at 20 C with a low of 7 C.

Periods of rain is forecast for Sunday as well, with high of 14 C, decreasing to a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight with a low of 6 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is expected for Monday through Wednesday next week, with temperatures of 18 C Monday, 20 C on Tuesday and 21 C Wednesday.

Monday and Tuesday’s lows are expected to be 6 C and 7 C.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton normally see average highs and lows of 18 C and 4 C in early May.
