KAMLOOPS – A woman driving to work got a big surprise when she came around the roundabout at Third Avenue this morning, a deer jumped out in front of her car and then into the Shark Club's front door.
Natasha Nel was on her way to work just before 8 a.m. when the deer, using the crosswalk, got startled and ran into the building.
"It paused, looked at me startled, and ran straight into the door," Nel says.
Horrified, she paused to watch for a moment as the deer floundered around. She then quickly went to park her vehicle in a safe spot before going back to look for the deer. While it was still alive after it hit the building, by the time Nel made it back to the front of the restaurant a few minutes later the deer was dead. A city staff member had witnessed the incident and had already called bylaw officers to dispose of the deer by that time.
The deer left a sizeable dent and crack in the large glass pane and by 8:30 a.m. the door was being replaced.
"(I've) parked there seven years and (this is the) first time something like this has happened," Nel says.
