A Clearwater elementary school ground breaking event tomorrow has been cancelled after a car crash left attendees unable to attend.
School District 73 superintendent Rhonda Nixon released a statement this morning, May 23, to say the Raft River Elementary was cancelled because of a "serious vehicle accident."
The school district was expected to host a ground breaking ceremony tomorrow morning, marking the start of construction for an outdoor classroom.
It was planned to "recognize the incredible community effort and donations that have gone into designing, planning, and now breaking ground to build this amazing outdoor place of learning on Secwepemc Territory," according to the statement.
Nixon did not say in the statement whether students, parents or faculty were injured in the collision, where the collision was or when.
The collision "caused a number of members not to be in a position to attend," she said in the statement.
A request for comment from the school district superintendent was not immediately returned.
