Clearwater hospital's emergency department closes temporarily due to 'limited staffing availability'

FILE PHOTO

The small community of Clearwater will go without its hospital's emergency department for much of this weekend due to a lack of available staff.

The emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital will be closed due to "unforeseen limited staffing availability," according to a press release from Interior Health.

The department will be closed from Saturday, Oct. 9 from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 10, reopening at 8 p.m. It will return to regular operating hours on Monday.

"Interior Health regrets this temporary change to normal operations and reminds residents to take note of the following if they require care while the emergency department is closed."

Call 9-1-1, visit the emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops at 311 Columbia Street or call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 (24 hour service) if you are unsure of your need to seek emergency care, according to the health authority.
