KAMLOOPS - The Tournament Capital will better be able to live up to its name if the most recent project being looked at by the City gets the go-ahead.

The City of Kamloops has announced a feasibility study is underway to find out whether it's worth installing an inflatable dome over the field that is home to hundreds of sporting events every year, according to a media release.

The study, as well as pre-design work, is expected to be done by May 2018.

"At this point, we are looking to find out how feasible it would be to construct this dome, in terms of budget, design and the business case for the facility,” Capital Projects manager Darren Crundwell says in the release. “Once we have those details, we can investigate funding sources.”

No word at this point how much a dome would cost.

The dome would cover the field and the surrounding track and only be in use during the winter months.

The dome would allow the City to have more soccer and football events, as well as providing more year-round training space for local athletes and teams.

The study is being done by a private company.
