City of Kamloops and Thompson-Nicola Regional District Express Gratitude for Wildfire Support

Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support that was displayed during this summer’s devastating wildfire season.

A provincial state of emergency was declared in BC on July 7, 2017, and, over the next 71 days, almost 11,000 evacuees found refuge in the Kamloops region.

Businesses, service providers, emergency personnel, Indigenous communities, and an unparalleled number of volunteers demonstrated their compassion, generosity, and undaunted community pride.

“This summer was a shining example of community helping community,” says John Ranta, TNRD Chair. “Offers and donations started pouring in almost immediately, and kept going until every evacuation order was lifted. It was incredible.”

The City of Kamloops and the TNRD would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone.
