City crews get ready to reopen boat launches in Kamloops

The City of Kamloops will reopen three boat launches this weekend. City crews were forced to close various boat launches last week due to high water levels.

KAMLOOPS - The water levels in the Thompson rivers have receded enough to allow boat launches to reopen this weekend.

Last week, May 24, city officials announced they would be closing the Pioneer Park, McArthur Island and Thompson Drive boat launches due to high water levels.

Although the boat launches will reopen, water levels remain high and city officials urge boat users to use caution on the waterways.

"Residents are asked to be extra cautious if they are on the river with motorized boats," Greg Wightman with the City of Kamloops says in a media release.

Wightman also warns residents to use idling speeds with motorized boats in case of potential debris in the river. City crews will continue to remove flood protection works as the water levels continue to decrease.
