BLAZERS PICK UP TWO PLAYERS IN SECOND ROUND
KAMLOOPS – The Western Hockey League bantam draft is underway and Ryan Chyzowski of Kamloops was one of only 21 players to be picked up in the first round.
The 6’ forward was picked up by Medicine Hat 17th overall after Portland passed on their pick. Chyzowski's older brother Nick has played for the Blazers the last three seasons and his dad, Dave, is a former NHLer who works for the Blazers organization.
In the second round the Kamloops Blazers chose Jackson Shepard and Devan Harrison with the 23rd and 26th overall picks.
Shepard is listed at 5’8” and 155 lbs and is from West Vancouver while Harrison is a 6’2” defenseman from Dysart, Sask.
“Jackson is a relentless hard-working player that has a great skill set. He is very competitive and always seems to come out of a battle with the puck. He has tremendous speed and plays bigger than his size,” Director of Player Personnel, Matt Recchi said in a media release. “Devan is a big and strong defenseman we coveted. He skates and moves the puck well. We think he will be a steady presence on our backend in the future.”
In the fourth round Kamloops product Ty Kolle was picked up by Portland. The 70th overall pick was given to the Blazers but traded to Portland.
