PENTICTON - Activities for the holiday season get underway in the South Okanagan this weekend, starting with the Holiday Cheer Open House Weekend in the Kaleden and Okanagan Falls area.
The two day event on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20 involves 13 wineries. Participating wineries are collecting perishable goods to donate to Helping Hands Christmas Fund hampers as they hold open houses for visiting guests. Armstrong based Ranch Vignola makes its fourth appearance at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre as the family owned business presents a fresh crop of dried fruit and nuts to Penticton residents in this direct to consumer event. The “try before you buy” market specializes in new crop nuts and dried fruit fresh from harvest. There will also be unique Christmas gifts, ingredients for Christmas baking, organic and fair trade products available for sale. The event takes place today, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and tomorrow, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Winter Market returns to the Shatford Centre on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, baking preserves and handmade crafts.
The Children’s Showcase Society presents "Ache Brasil,” a touring performance group based in Vancouver that portrays the culture and traditions of Brazil through music, dance and acrobatics. Tickets for the critically acclaimed performance are available at Tumbleweed Gallery, the Community Centre, Oliver Veterinary Hospital and The Beanery in Summerland. Suitable for ages three and up, the performance starts at 2 p.m. at the Cleland Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 20.
