A 63-year-old man died Christmas Day, at around 11:45 a.m., when his SUV went down an embankment and crashed into some trees at Carmi Avenue and Carmi Road.

"Evidence at the scene suggests the driver drove straight off the left side of Carmi Avenue, down the embankment," Penticton RCMP Const. James Grandy said in a press release distributed today, Dec. 28.

"The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. There was no obvious indication intoxication was a factor. He was the only occupant of the vehicle."

The BC Coroners Service attended the scene and is conducting a parallel fact-finding investigation to confirm cause of death.

No further information about the identity of the deceased will be released.
