Chilly start to September normal for this time of year in Kamloops, Okanagan

FILE PHOTO

After unseasonably high temperatures throughout August and into the Labour Day long weekend it may have been a bit of a shock to head outdoors first thing this morning.

At 7:30 a.m. today, Sept. 6, the temperature was only 7 Celsius in Kelowna.

Kelowna was the coolest of the major cities in the region, with Penticton, Vernon and Kamloops ranging from 9 C to 11 C, all slightly below the normal temperatures for those cities.

Things are forecast to improve today with highs well above normal, hitting 29 C throughout the region. Normal highs for this time of year are 24 C in Kamloops and 22 C in the Okanagan.

It’s expected to be a couple of degrees cooler tomorrow before dropping to more seasonal temperatures in the low 20s later in the week.

The Okanagan should be sunny all week although local smoke is forecast for tomorrow.

Kamloops can expect some clouds today and tomorrow then sunshine for the rest of the week.

Overnight lows are forecast to be in the 8 C to 10 C range in the Okanagan and warmer in Kamloops at 10 C to 12 C.
