Cherryvillians chortle at typo on North Okanagan highway sign

Oops. It's North Fork Road not North Folk Road. The incorrectly spelled sign can be seen on Highway 6 in the North Okanagan community of Cherryville.

While people who live in Cherryville sometimes call themselves Cherryvillians, it appears someone would like to change that.

A slip up somewhere in the chain of command has led to a spelling mistake on a Highway 6 sign in Cherryville, which now refers to a North Folk Road instead of the actual name which is North Fork Road. Cherryville is in the North Okanagan, around 50 kilometres east of Vernon.

The error is giving local Cherryvillians something to smile about.

Les Quigley took to Facebook to ask "Do I need new glasses?" and plenty of Cherryvillians or 'North Folk' chimed in.

"Watch out for those North Folk, Cherryville is crawling with them," reads one post, while another reads "I guess we are just a bunch of North Folks."

Another post says "don't mess with the North Folk."

While there was a lot of chatter across social media Cherryville Emporium employee Joy Gutzke said she hadn't heard too much about the sign from the store's customers. Staff at Frank's General Store echoed the statements.

Gutzke said while she thought the sign was funny, she wasn't in favour of changing the street name.

"I've lived here for years, I'd rather keep it the same," she added.

Will the name North Folk takes over from Cherryvillians? Gutzke wasn't really sure about that either.
