Cheeky runners show off their assets

Bare As You Dare participants stripped down to raise money for local charities Sunday morning.

KAMLOOPS - They came out in camisoles, negligee, boxers and even sumo mawashi (the loin cloth that looks like a big diaper) with a willingness that has to make you wonder 'just what were they thinking?'

While some runners simply sported their underwear on top of their running gear many others decided to strip down to just their unmentionables for the 8 km Bare As You Dare fundraising run Sunday.

The event was filled with very cheeky moments and even more jokes, but organizer Sherry Maligaspe says that is exactly what the event, and the organization, is all about. They want to have fun.

"As adults we don't get to do that very often, be really silly," Maligaspe said prior to the race.

The event is one of three events the Kamloops Ridge Runners hosts every year. It's the newest of the trio at only four years running. The other two events are the Spring Runoff and the Blackwell Dairy races, which are celebrated 30 and 29 years earlier this year.

Proceeds from Bare As You Dare go to the local chapter of the Kidney Foundation as well as other local organizations.
