Cheapest last-minute Christmas vacations on a beach

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – The spirit of Christmas is supposed to be with you wherever you go, so who says you can’t celebrate the holidays with a mojito on a beach somewhere?

If you’re ill-prepared for the holidays and impulsive when it comes to travel, the top two all-inclusive locations that won’t break the bank in December are Mexico and Cuba, according to Flight Centre.

The price of the ticket can change depending on departure date, length of stay, how many people you’re travelling with and if it’s a last minute deal. But to leave the Kelowna International Airport for either country from now to Dec. 28 you’re looking at around $2,000 per person. That's for flights, transportation, hotels and possibly your meals.

Mexico is the cheaper of the two options and the most popular destination. For around $1,700 you can visit the ruins of the Mayan Riviera or the white beaches of Cancun.

Roughly $2,100 will put you in Varadero, Cuba, which isn’t far from the country’s capital Havana.

While you might feel antsy at the prospect of learning a new language, staff within the hospitality industry in both countries are very well-versed in English. But if you want to try out your Spanish, there are three words you must learn: Cerveza (beer), comida (food) and cama (bed).
