PENTICTON - Penticton residents using the new regional transit service to Kelowna will find themselves with a pretty cheap ride when the service begins in September.
Penticton city council will look at the new fees for the new route 70 bus service from Penticton to Kelowna at its meeting on Monday, June 5. The new fees are scheduled to begin on Sept. 3.
A one-way cash fare of $5 is proposed, which is a pretty good deal when you consider bus fair in Penticton is $2.25.
A book of 10 tickets is suggested at $45, while an adult monthly pass would cost $100. A student senior monthly pass is proposed at $85.
The new transit service will be operated by the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen in conjunction with BC Transit.
Penticton and other municipalities and regional districts contribute to the service through annual payments to the district.
Council will consider the fare recommendation for the bus route to Kelowna at the council meeting on Monday.
