Chase RCMP enlisted the help of search and rescue crews to find a man reportedly clinging to his overturned kayak Sunday afternoon.

His body was found around noon yesterday, May 15, after an extensive search of the area, according to a Chase RCMP news release.

"Chase RCMP would like to express their condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy," the news release reads.

Witnesses saw him in distress in Chase Creek as he was being swept toward the South Thompson River around 4 p.m., May 14, police said.

Shuswap Search and Rescue looked for the man into the evening, with help from Kamloops Search and Rescue yesterday morning.

The man's identity was confirmed and the family was notified, but police did not publicly identify him.
