Charges laid against two men in Williams Lake murder

WILLIAMS LAKE - RCMP have charged two men in connection with a murder in Williams Lake.

Police says Michael Drynock and Jayson Gilbert have been charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of Branton Regner whose body was found in the Fraser River on Aug. 27.

Both men charged also face charges for kidnapping and attempted murder, according to an RCMP media release. The charges were laid by the B.C. Prosecution Service yesterday, Sept. 18.

Regner was reported missing on Aug. 9. after an incident on the Rudy Johnson Bridge in Williams Lake, police say. His body was identified by RCMP investigators working with the B.C. Coroners Service on Aug. 27.

"The rapid progress of the arrests and multiple charges involving these two accused are a direct result of the collaborative investigative effort between Williams Lake RCMP and the North District Major Crime," Williams Lake RCMP officer in charge Insp. Jeff Pelley said in the release. "These investigations are ongoing and continue to be a priority within our community."
