Charges laid after Kamloops police cruiser struck

Kamloops RCMP are laying charges after one of their vehicles was the victim of a dramatic accident.

Police say the RCMP cruiser was making an emergency U-turn with it's lights activated when it was struck by an eastbound vehicle on the East Trans-Canada Highway near Grand Boulevard.

An RCMP news release says the suspect vehicle then drove away, leaving its driver’s side door embedded in the police vehicle’s front right bumper.

The officer in the police cruiser suffered minor injuries.

The incident happened at about 6:55 p.m., Feb. 19, but police are now releasing a statement saying charges have been laid against an adult female suspect, who also suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police say the suspect received a 24-hour driving prohibition related to impaired driving and was charged with violation tickets for failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to yield or stop for an emergency vehicle.

The name of the suspect hasn't been released.
