Charges approved against truck thief nabbed by Kamloops RCMP with spike belt

RCMP

Charges have been approved against the man who wouldn’t stop for police until the vehicle he was driving became disabled by a spike belt in Kamloops.

Kurt Leo Kujannek, a 28 year old from Williams Lake, has been charged with failure to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, possession of a stolen truck, dangerous driving, and resisting or obstructing a police officer, according to a press release from the Kamloops RCMP.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Dec 14, Kejannek was spotted driving a blue truck that was reported stolen out of Williams Lake, and in the same community at 6:45 a.m., it was involved in fuel theft, RCMP said.

It was also used to flee from police in Ashcroft.

Once the vehicle was spotted in Kamloops it drew the response of multiple officers, who successfully deployed a spike belt on the East Trans-Canada Highway near Dallas Road, causing the truck to eventually come to a stop near Hook Road.

Kejannek was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court on Dec. 20, RCMP said.
