PENTICTON - An upcoming charitable event offers members of the public a rare opportunity to experience the high speed thrills of racing on a Formula one racetrack.
Oliver’s Area 27 is presenting “Cars for a Cause” on Thursday, Aug. 1, offering the public the chance to ‘co-pilot’ a formula one car.
The track is teaming up with Okanagan Similkameen Neurologial Society in the fundraising event.
Society spokesperson Meg Dimma said in a press release issued today, July 10, Area 27 members have offered to donate their time and luxury cars to provide a co-pilot experience, which will also include an opportunity to meet your driver, check out the expensive cars, get 20 minutes of track time, a clubhouse reception entry, swag and a drink ticket.
The rides are booked on a first come, first serve basis. Cost is $100 to $500. Those interested in participating can register at this website.
All proceeds from registration fees go to children’s causes with the society.
Cars up for co-piloting include a McLaren, BMWs, Porsche, Corvette, Ford Shelby, Lotus Evora, Viper and more.
The motorports track is normally off-limits to the general public, but on Aug. 1 the grounds will be lined with sponsors showcasing their hottest sports car fleets, watercraft, motorbikes, RVs, food trucks and more.
The track’s new Kartplex facility is also expected to be open.
The day gets underway at 10:30 as the first co-pilots take to the track. General admission is $20.
A reception follows at the clubhouse at 4:30, followed by dinner and a live and silent auction.
A select number of dinner tickets are available at $50 each.
