A popular outdoor music and sports festival will not be returning to Kelowna.

Center of Gravity, which has been held in the city's downtown since 2008, took last year off and announced on its website that it will not return.

"Since its inauguration in 2008, Center of Gravity grew to become one of the largest sports and music festivals in Canada. This would not have been possible without the love and support of our fans, artists, athletes, vendors, and partners. We are truly grateful for the contributions that each of you made to create this amazing event. We are announcing that Center of Gravity will not be returning."

The festival originally announced that it would return in 2020, after taking a year off in 2019.

In 2018, a 16-year-old girl overdosed at the festival and later died in hospital.

The beach festival was held every summer, filling the downtown streets with tourists, and featured acts like Snoop Dogg, Zedd and Wu-Tang Clan.
