The Central Okanagan Food Bank is limiting customers in its facility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for Canada, the safety of our staff, volunteers and clients remain our number one priority,” states a food bank in a news release.
The food bank will be altering its distribution method of food hampers to community members in need.
“Going forward, foot traffic within the Central Okanagan Food Bank will be limited to staff and volunteers only. Clients with booked appointments are asked to arrive at your pre-scheduled appointment time and remain in your vehicle while we deliver your pre-packaged food hamper to you. Please be sure to bring your required ID,” the release said.
The food bank is requesting that clients who display COVID-19 symptoms to not visit the facility but instead call to arrange a "dedicated pickup time."
The food bank's phone number is 250-763-7161.
For those wishing to help, consider making a donation online here. The Central Okanagan Food Bank assists roughly 4,000 individuals every month, 33 per cent are children under 15, the release states.
