KELOWNA - Chris Gorman resigned at the end of Wednesday’s school board meeting in order to move forward with his new career as a financial advisor.

Gorman was a trustee for the Central Okanagan School District 23 for two terms but announced earlier this year that he would not run for re-election.

About a month ago, he changed the firm he was working for as a financial advisor.

“I work in a highly regulated industry,” Gorman told iNFOnews.ca. “As an elected person, I’m not able to have a business relationship to anyone with a family relationship to the school district or to a student of the school district.”

That eliminated a lot of potential clients.

He delayed his resignation until after the Oct. 20 election and waited until the end of the last school board meeting of the term, handing his letter of resignation to the board’s secretary-treasurer at the end of the meeting on Oct. 24, to take effect immediately.

He expects he will be saving the school district a bit of money by not being paid for the last 12 days of his term, which was to expire Nov. 7 when the new board will be sworn in.

No other meetings are scheduled until then.
