Central Okanagan school superintendent hopeful for return of regular classes in fall

The Central Okanagan school district is working on a plan for the return of regular classroom instruction this fall.

More information regarding the return to in-class instruction will be announced in late August, according to school district superintendent Kevin Kaardal in a letter to parents.

Kaardal also acknowledged the challenges with remote-learning for students and recognized the parents and caregivers who were involved to support the new learning environment.

He also addressed year-end reports, stating they may be heavily based on learning done prior to the pandemic, considering how much information is available for each student.

“Teachers may not have the same amount of information about student learning as in a normal school year and therefore may not be able to provide the same amount of detailed feedback,” he said in the letter, quoting a statement from the Ministry of Education.

Last week, Premier John Horgan announced that he was hopeful the province will be able to move into Phase 3 of its reopening plan at some point this week. A big part of Phase 3 is to open up the accommodation industry by encouraging people to take vacations in B.C. and Horgan said he has already made some bookings for himself.
